Entry and Elimination of Marine Mammal Brucella spp. by Hooded Seal (Cystophora cristata) Alveolar Macrophages In Vitro
A high prevalence of Brucellapinnipedialis serology and bacteriology positive animals has been found in the Northeast Atlantic stock of hooded seal (Cystophoracristata); however no associated gross pathological changes have been identified. Marine mammal brucellae have previously displayed different infection patterns in human and murine macrophages. To investigate if marine mammal Brucella spp...
متن کاملWhole-Genome Sequence of Brucella melitensis CIIMS-BH-2, a Biovar 2 Strain Isolated from Human Blood
Brucella species are the etiological agent of brucellosis in humans and animals. Here, we report the whole-genome sequence of Brucella melitensis strain CIIMS-BH-2, belonging to biovar 2. The draft assembly of CIIMS-BH-2 is 3.31 Mb in size, with 57.2% G+C content.
متن کاملLipopolysaccharide heterogeneity in the atypical group of novel emerging Brucella species.
Recently, novel Brucella strains with phenotypic characteristics that were atypical for strains belonging to the genus Brucella have been reported. Phenotypically many of these strains were initially misidentified as Ochrobactrum spp. Two novel species have been described so far for these strains, i.e., B. microti and B. inopinata, and other strains genetically related to B. inopinata may const...
متن کاملA Case of Identity Confirmation of Brucella abortus S99 by Phage Typing and PCR Methods
Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection that is associated with fever in humans and abortion in animals. The agent of this disease is a facultative intracellular gram-negative coccobacillus called Brucella. There are six classic species, including B. abortus, B. melitensis, B. suis, B. canis, B. neotomae, and B. ovis. In recent years, four new species have been reported,...
متن کاملIdentification of a Single-Nucleotide Insertion in the Promoter Region Affecting the sodC Promoter Activity in Brucella neotomae
Brucella neotomae is not known to be associated with clinical disease in any host species. Previous research suggested that B. neotomae might not express detectable levels of Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD), a periplasmic enzyme known to be involved in protecting Brucella from oxidative bactericidal effects of host phagocytes. This study was undertaken to investigate the genetic basis for the ...
